The car itself is a 301 cubic inch (4.9 litre), quadrajet carb, V8. Although it is a 301, its badged up as a 400 with the 6.6 TA decal on the scoop, screamin' chicken on the bonnet, T-tops etc. The exhaust note, as anyone who gets near it will testify, certainly
doesn't give away the fact that its packing the smaller plant. It's certainly not a car for driving about incognito in!Everything on the car is pretty much as it came out of the factory, except for the twin, straight through, cherry bomb exhaust system that is fitted, with incredibly little silencing (apologies to the neighbours!). Power is boosted by the fact that the catalytic converter has disappeared too, they are not a legal requirement on old cars in Britain. The car still has the original Rochester Quadrajet carb on there, but will oversized jets to give that little extra performance. Maybe one day, when the 301 gives up the ghost, I'll finally get round to squeezing a 400 or maybe a Chevy 350 in there, but until I have the dough, I'm quite happy poodling around in a 4.9 litre motor! |
